Here is a link to a great article published by Fresh Home on the subject of TRANSITIONAL DESIGN STYLE.
Transitional design is a term that is very commonly used to describe a design style that is not quite modern, not quite traditional, but embodies elements of both of those styles.
S Interior Design has frequently worked in this area of interior design. A good example would be updating a client’s traditional style wing back chair by reupholstering it with a modern geometric fabric and painting the wood frame a high gloss black. Adding contemporary abstract art work to a more traditionally designed room and/or traditional styles of crystal and iron chandeliers to a modern space are also ways to achieve a Transitional style.
In the end, descriptive adjectives of a room’s style are less important than achieving a look and feel for a space that just FEELS RIGHT and we believe that is the ultimate design goal !
